Overview

Wheel Ceramic Coating
explained properly.

Written by the team that carries out the work, no filler, no generic marketing copy.

What it is
A specialised ceramic coating engineered for the extreme heat, chemistry and abrasion wheels endure. Applied to the wheel face (and often barrel) so brake dust, road salt, iron fallout and tar release with a rinse instead of scrubbing.
Who it's for
Anyone with alloys they'd like to keep looking new, especially owners of prestige, performance or premium wheels where refurbishment is expensive.
When you need it
Ideally on new wheels or immediately after a refurbishment. Also excellent as part of a full detail, or before winter road-salt season.
Why professional matters
Wheels take the worst punishment on the car, heat cycling from brakes, corrosive brake dust, iron fallout embedding into finishes, salt in winter, tar and stone chips year-round. Standard paint sealants aren't rated for that environment. A wheel-specific ceramic is the right tool.

Why it matters

What happens
if you leave it.

Wheels neglected for long enough cross a line where cleaning stops restoring them and refurbishment becomes the only path.

Risks & escalation

  • Baked-on brake dust embeds iron particles into the lacquer, once corroded in, they cannot be safely removed by chemistry alone.
  • Winter road salt corrodes bare or scuffed alloy edges, causing lacquer lift and eventual refurb.
  • Uncoated wheels demand more aggressive cleaning products more often, accelerating finish wear.
  • Neglected diamond-cut and multi-piece wheels are particularly expensive to refurbish once damaged.

Common mistakes

  • Using an acidic wheel cleaner as a routine step, great for occasional heavy contamination, punishing on lacquer weekly.
  • Ignoring the barrel side of the wheel, brake dust sits there just as heavily.
  • Assuming a full-body ceramic covers wheels too. Wheel coatings are formulated differently for heat and brake chemistry.
  • Applying a wheel coating over dirty wheels, locking contamination in for the life of the coating.

Our process

Meticulous. Methodical.
Repeatable.

  1. 01

    Wheel Removal (where appropriate)

Wheels off the car where practical for full 360° access, barrel, face, spokes and lip.

  2. 02

    Decontamination

Non-acidic wheel cleaner, iron fallout remover, tar remover; all bonded contamination lifted.

  3. 03

    Machine Polishing (as needed)

Lightly polished where finish condition allows, restoring gloss to lacquered wheels before coating.

  4. 04

    IPA Wipe-Down

Every surface prepped for bonding, no polishing oils, no residues.

  5. 05

    Wheel Ceramic Application

Coating applied face and barrel, levelled to manufacturer spec, then flashed off in the studio.

  6. 06

    Controlled Cure & Reinstall

Coating cures in the controlled studio environment; wheels reinstalled; aftercare briefed.

Benefits

What you actually get
for the money.

Extended finish life

Lacquer and paint protected against the worst environment on the car.

Rinse-and-go cleaning

Brake dust and grime release with a pressure rinse rather than requiring scrubbing every wash.

Refurb cost avoided

Refurbishing a set of alloys costs meaningfully more than protecting them from the outset.

High-temperature stable

Formulated for the heat that wheels genuinely see, unlike general paint coatings.

Consistent look, all year

Wheels stay looking freshly cleaned between washes.

Applied indoors, cured properly

Correct temperature and humidity for a coating that lasts, not one that fails.

Deep detail

Under the surface
of the work.

Wheels are the most-punished surface on your car. The right coating is the difference between a genuine multi-year finish and a sealant that gives up in three months.

Why wheel-specific coatings

Wheel coatings are formulated to resist high temperatures, aggressive brake dust chemistry and abrasion in a way general paint coatings simply aren't. Applying a body coating to wheels 'because we have it in stock' delivers a fraction of the performance.

Diamond-cut, painted, polished and multi-piece

Different wheel finishes have very different vulnerabilities. Diamond-cut lacquer lifts if attacked at the edges. Multi-piece wheels have exposed hardware that benefits from targeted protection. We match products to finish, not the other way round.

Off-car vs on-car application

Removing the wheels gives full 360° access to the barrel and eliminates masking risk; the ideal approach for a proper coating job. On-car application is possible where wheel removal is impractical, with careful masking.

Combining with a full detail or coating

Wheels are a natural bolt-on to a full-body ceramic coating booking. The car is already in the studio for 48 hours; adding wheels aligns the whole car's protection lifecycle.

Aftercare

Aftercare is easier with wheel coatings, pH neutral shampoo, occasional dedicated wheel cleaner, no aggressive acids as a routine. We brief every customer at handover.

Frequently asked

Answers before
you have to ask.

How much does wheel coating cost?

+

Priced per set, dependent on wheel type, whether wheels come off the car, and current condition. Get in touch for a personalised quote.

How long does wheel coating take?

+

Typically included in a wider full-detail or paint-coating booking. As a standalone, allow a full working day.

How long does it last?

+

Depends on the specific product chosen; the top wheel coatings we use are rated in years, not months, when applied in correct conditions and looked after.

Will you take the wheels off the car?

+

Where practical, yes, off-car application gives the best barrel and face coverage. On-car is possible with careful masking where wheel removal isn't practical.

Can I still use an acid wheel cleaner after coating?

+

Not routinely. The whole point of a coating is that pH-neutral chemistry and a rinse are enough for standard cleaning. Reserve stronger products for occasional heavy contamination, we'll brief you at handover.

Does it help against winter road salt?

+

Yes, hydrophobic behaviour and reduced adhesion make salt release much more easily on rinse, protecting lacquer and paint underneath.

Does it work on diamond-cut alloys?

+

Yes, with careful attention to the vulnerable lacquer edges. In fact, diamond-cut wheels are among the most cost-effective candidates because refurbishment is so expensive.

Do you cover the surrounding areas of Essex?

+

Yes, studio in Hawkwell, Hockley, with regular customers from Southend, Rayleigh, Benfleet, Leigh, Wickford, Basildon, Canvey, Shoebury and Chelmsford. Pickup and drop-off available on request.
